MIT Proposes Partial CCS - Capture Less CO2 At Lower Cost

I'm confused about what this article is reporting... that if we try less and only do 60% CCS instead of 90%, it's going to be cheaper? Not to say that I'm smarter than the collective minds of MIT, but I thought this was pretty obvious.

Certainly fossil fuels will continue to webmd pfizer erectile disfunction be used, but until there is a level playing field with respect to price, green energy technologies will not be able to compete - nor will clean coal technologies compete with old fashioned dirty coal.

What is needed is a clear policy that charges coal-burning power plants for the CO2 they emit. That cost should be equivalent to a significant fraction of what it would cost to capture and sequester the CO2. These charges (i.e. taxes) should then be used to underwrite the capital costs of green technologies.

What is implicit but not stated in this article is that it is necessary to burn 1/3 more coal to generate the viagra no prescription energy required to capture CO2 from coal-fired power plants. The carbon capture technology likewise adds to the capital cost. If these costs are taken into account, wind and photovoltaic energy are far more competitive.

If one looks at Carbon Capture Systems, the 80/20 rule typically applies. That is, it is as expensive to capture the last 20% as the first 80%. This study suggests that a really inexpensive system with minimum impact on the plant economics or capacity would can capture only 60% of the emissions. Make sense to me.

Coal is one of the main culprits of GW. In my mind 60% is just not good enough. The plants last 50 to 60 years and the utilities will dry until they get their way about keeping them. Its a problem I want to get rid of online cialis pharmacy and scrapped forever.
