Carbon Nanotubes Could Be Secret to Greater EV Range

carbon-nanotubes
Scientists at MIT have developed a positive electrode made of carbon nanotubes that significantly boosts lithium ion battery performance and buy viagra soft online could lead to much greater range in electric vehicles and longer battery lives for gadgets.

The carbon nanotube electrodes enable lithium ion batteries to deliver ten times more power than a conventional battery and store five times more energy than a conventional ultracapacitor.  The nanotubes accomplish this because they have a very high surface area for storing and reacting with lithium, which increases the battery's storage capacity and the revistaneon.net speed at which it can charge and discharge.

The MIT scientists have already licensed the technology to a battery company (as yet, unnamed) and are perfecting quick methods of making the electrodes, like spraying the nanotubes on a substrate, to facilitate mass production.

could lead to much greater range in electric vehicles - incorrect!

Hi,

could lead to much greater range in electric vehicles

Thats an incorrect conclusion.

The carbon nanotube electrodes enable lithium ion batteries to deliver ten times more power than a conventional battery and store five times more energy than a conventional ultracapacitor.

Power delivery and energy capacity are not the same. Current capacitors have excellent power delivery but poor energy capacity. If this technology had five times the energy capacity of a conventional battery that conclusion would be correct.

I think greater capacity is what the article (second page) is stating:
"The more total lithium the battery can store, the greater its total energy storage capacity. The faster the ions can move out of one electrode and http://www.guenstige-versicherungen-online.de/cialis-generico into the levitra prescription drugs other, the greater its power. In work published this week in the journal Nature Nanotechnology, the MIT group showed that lithium ions in a battery electrolyte react with oxygen-containing chemical groups on the surface of the carbon nanotubes in the film. Because of the huge surface area and porous structure of tramadol dosage the nanotube electrodes, there are many places for the ions to react, and they can travel in and out rapidly, which gives the nanotube battery high energy capacity and power, says Shao-Horn."
