There's too much cow fat in the world...
No, for real, there's so much cow fat that we no longer know what to do with it all. We used to be able to fry things in it, but saturated fats, when fried, turn into trans fats. And, nowadays, people are frightened of trans fats. So what are we going to do with the 200 lbs of tallow that result from the processing of just one cow?
Why...make motor oil from it, if course!
Green Earth Technologies is taking all of that excess, inexpensive, and previously useless tallow and turning it into cleaning solutions and motor oil for cars, lawnmowers, and boats. The company's slogan, "Be Green, Sacrifice Nothing," is kind crap...because your motor oil is one small part of the impact of whatever device you're putting it in, but that doesn't mean this isn't pretty cool.
Their website talks a lot about sustainability...packaging made from recycled milk jugs, soy-based inks, etc. But it doesn't talk a lot about the fact that their products are pretty much made from lard. I suppose they're entitled to their marketing strategies but, honestly, the cow fat part is the coolest thing about this stuff!

The only way it supports factory farms is by making a cow slightly more profitable. Of course the actual market force is always going to be our crazy obsession with beef for every meal.
Also they probably don't focus on the animal product too much because the kind of person who would buy a green product is also the kind of person that would probably have an issue with ethical treatment (or environmental impact) of livestock.

And, most unfortunately, you're a bit mistaken about that last statement as well. Some of the staunchest advocates against animal rights and fiercest supporters of anything that will get a steak to them quicker, bigger, and rarer often term themselves "environmentalists". I wish the two went hand-in-hand, that all Greenies cared as much about the environmental impacts of their food as they did their cars, that they cared about their health as well as their footprint, but from my personal experience it just isn't always the case.

It is only the non-biological hydrogenation of unsaturated fats (i.e., opening up a double bond between carbons, and attaching a new hydrogen atom to each carbon as single bonds are formed) that can lock fats into the *trans* configuration. This is because the double bonds are flexible, and might be bent into an unnatural shape during the hydrogenation process.
Frying in lard (the traditional fat for this purpose), or in coconut or palm oil, may actually be healthier, because there isn't the opportunity for accidental hydrogenation.
