Electric drive vehicles are sweeping many of the awards this year, and now, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Chevrolet Volt has been named 2011 North American Car of the Year.
The Volt was a compelling concept when it was first introduced, and it has gone through a very public development process over the past few years. While there were times when it was questionable whether GM would actually be able to deliver it, not only have they done so, but they are now winning honors with this car.

The design looks pretty elegant but the curves remind me a bit of Prius? Have they been released in Europe?

At that price, I don't think the Volt is a highly efficient vehicle. However, it is a small step in the right direction, 10 years late.
