Aptera, who we've been following for years now, is finally letting the public take a look at the production model of it's fancy, fish-shaped electric / hybrid-electric car.
So now those folks who've put deposits down on their Aptera actually know what they'll be getting. Things we didn't know include an optional rear-view camera, seats made from recycled plastic, a DVD based navigation system, an proximity-unlock / auto-start smart key.
The coefficient of drag, as expected, is phenomenal at 0.15 (the 2004 Prius is about 0.26.) Airbags will keep passengers safe, though as this "car" is technically a motorcycle in most states, it won't be held to the same safety standards. Aptera, however, seems to be making the car as safe as possible, with the same crumple zones and seat-belt systems that you'd see in any other car.
A spec listing being handed out at the TED conference was transcribed by Josh at the Aptera forums and is available below.
Two important things we don't know...the price and the delivery date. When Aptera first released it's plans, they said the car would be $20,000, but that price has been rising steadily and it's now expected to be no more than $40,000. The delivery date has also been pushed back more than 10 months, much to the disappointment of folks who've put down their deposit. Aptera's most recent announcement has the first deliveries taking place this October.

It would be great to only quote drag area in any spec mentioned, not drag coefficient. (Same as quoting MPG not engine efficiency.)

Rumor (and California Law for Motorcycles) says that the small exterior mirrs are required (at least one) and they do get rid of a bad blind spot just to the rear of the doors. Rear facing camera is likely an option and they are showing an LCD projection on the left quarter of the windshield-mounted rear-view mirror. Over the past year they changed to front-wheel drive, which reduces noise, improves reliability and regenerative braking. The range (100 miles) is at 55 mph, so it is a pretty good number. Don't let small horsepower confuse you because electric motor horsepower is not comparable to gas motor horsepower in vehicle use. Aptera stated this week that 0-60mph performance is less than 9 seconds.
